hello…

Kayleigh Calder, founder of Loops of Colour taking a mirror selfie in a bathroom, wearing a pink knit beanie, yellow and white striped scarf, cream coat, and floral dress.

Hi there! My name is Kayleigh, and I am the owner and designer behind Loops of Colour Designs. I was born and raised in the charming Scottish Borders town of Hawick.

This pretty little town has a long and celebrated textile history – home to Pringles of Hawick for example, a brand known around the world! I now live on a farm with my wonderful husband and our gorgeous little lambs (our very energetic boys!) who keep me on my toes and then some.

I split my time between caring for our boys, helping with farm duties and working on my business. As you can imagine, life is busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have always had a passion for colour, pattern and knitwear design. The Scottish Borders is renowned for its textile heritage, and I have had the privilege of studying at Heriot Watt University at the Galashiels campus. During my studies, I was able to hone my skills, blending my natural affinity to colour theory and love of pattern with a solid grounding of the science and industry know how behind fabric design. I graduated in (** what year?) earning my BA(Hons) in Design for Textiles (Fashion, Interior, Art). My years studying taught me to trust my instincts with colour theory, to be bold and to never tire of exploring new ideas.

Each design choice is a step towards leaving a better planet for them and generations to come.
— Kayleigh Caldwell, Brand Director

As well as designing my own knitwear products, I also sell fabric designs internationally through my lovely agent at CODE Studio London. If you would like to learn more about this, please drop me a message via the ‘Contact Us’ page of the website – I’d love to chat with you!

I hope my designs bring you as much joy as I get from creating them. Each piece truly is an exclusively loopy blend of colour, passion and joy.

“I’ve bought a few pieces from Loops of Colour over the years, mainly lambswool hats and merino scarves, and I can honestly say Kayleigh’s work is in a league of its own. The colours and patterns she uses are stunning in photos, but even more vibrant and detailed in person. They’re nothing like what you find in department stores, or even from most so-called “designer” knitwear brands.

This is proper artisanal craft. Kayleigh can do everything, from spinning and combing wool, to designing, knitting, and finishing each of her pieces. You can really feel that care and craftsmanship in every item. The quality is exceptional—I’ve seen nothing like it, even from some of the big mills.

Everything comes beautifully wrapped, too, which makes it a joy to receive (or give as a gift). And when you consider the time, skill, and materials that go into each piece, the value is genuinely outstanding. These are items that, if you look after them, will last for decades.”
